About the Artist

My name is Nina Lautenschlaeger and I am currently working as a doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens in Berlin, Germany.

Despite being a scientist by training, art has been part of my life since I can hold a pencil in my hand. I always loved to observe and create, which is also what I do as a molecular biologist working in microbiology.

During my studies at TU Dresden, I did not spend much time on painting and drawing, which I am now trying to change.

I used to do a lot of naturalistic pencil drawings of animals and plants, always trying to replicate nature as good as I can. However, art is not really only about re-creating, but about designing and creating something new. Therefore, I took a chance and transitioned to abstract art, which was a completely new experience for me and something I always thought I could not be good at. Now I am really glad that I broadened my artistic horizon and I just enjoy working with alcohol inks so much.
